That person needs to consider various factors\nsuch as the degree of the indebtedness burden, the relative degree of intimacy and the speech\nsituation. Previous Korean literature concerning gratitude situations, however, has focused on\nhow to express gratitude but has ignored the response to the expressions of gratitude. This\nresearch focused on how speakers respond to expressions of gratitude in the Korean language\nand culture. It analyzes the DCT (Discourse Completion Test) data from Korean college\nstudents paying attention to how Korean people interact in speech situations of gratitude from\nthe perspective of linguist strategy. DCT analysis shows that depending upon elements such\nas intimacy, age or social status, degree of indebtedness, Korean college students adopt a\nvariety of linguistic strategies to respond to gratitude.
