This has become a kind of social phenomenon. This\npaper focuses on the hostesses’ narratives about hostesses and considers the\nfollowing two questions. Firstly, in the expanding opportunities of narratives\nby hostesses, can hostesses who talk about hostesses represent (“speak for”/“represent”)\nthose who do not? This question is about representation. Secondly,\nhow do readers/listeners respond to the narratives of hostesses by\nhostesses? This question is about readers’ responses. In order to answer these\nquestions, this paper analyzes one of the novels written by “ex-hostess” Yuzuki\nMuroi, Dragonfly(1999), in which the protagonist comes to identify herself as\na hostess.\nFirstly, previous literature on hostesses is introduced, and its problems\nand significance are presented. Secondly, I consider the effects of the stigma\nattached to hostesses in regards to issues of representation. By employing\nSpivak’s subaltern theory, I argue that it is impossible for the hostesses who\ntalk about hostesses to represent those who do not talk. Then, I examine how\n“ex-hostess” author Yuzuki Muroi narrated about hostesses in her novel\nDragonfly. In this novel, hostesses are characterized as being greedy, slutty and\nirrational. These characteristics are in accordance with the stereotyped and\nsocially stigmatized image of hostesses. The “real” hostess in this text is not\nmerely the occupation but is also presented as a person who identifies with\nthe stereotyped image of hostesses.\nFinally, by employing Foucault’s author function theory, I study how\nreaders responded to Dragonfly. Among the readers’ interpretations, I found\nthat the readers considered what was written in the novel to be the “reality”\nof the hostess world. The author’s identity as an “ex-hostess” guarantees the\nauthenticity of the narrative of hostesses and convinced the readers of its\nreality.\nIn conclusion, the current study clarifies that the “real” hostess in the\nreaders’ minds was fabricated in a consistent manner with Muroi’s narrative\nand the preexisting stereotyped image, due to Muroi’s identity as “ex-hostess”\nwhich guarantees its authenticity.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_full_name_3":{"attribute_name":"著者別名","attribute_value_mlt":[{"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"7379","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}],"names":[{"name":"OE, Mitsuko","nameLang":"en"}]}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.34577/00004703","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国際基督教大学","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"18804764","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"open access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"大江, 光子","creatorNameLang":"ja"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"7378","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2020-05-28"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"10OE.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"999.9 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"ホステスは語ることができるか? —「元ホステス」作家の語りと読者の受容","url":"https://icu.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/4883/files/10OE.pdf"},"version_id":"93673224-db80-4104-b51b-69f230e793f4"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"ホステスは語ることができるか? —「元ホステス」作家の語りと読者の受容","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"ホステスは語ることができるか? —「元ホステス」作家の語りと読者の受容","subitem_title_language":"ja"},{"subitem_title":"Can the Hostess Speak?: “Ex-Hostess” Author Narratives and Its Readers’ Responses","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"14","path":["508"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2020-05-28"},"publish_date":"2020-05-28","publish_status":"0","recid":"4883","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["ホステスは語ることができるか? —「元ホステス」作家の語りと読者の受容"],"weko_creator_id":"14","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-10-02T01:41:13.426160+00:00"}
