Many advocates of their use claim that such\nmaterials motivate learners. However, there are concerns that without effective\nselection and scaffolding of these texts, they may have a negative impact on\nlearner motivation. In this paper, I outline research into the motivational effect of\nthe use of authentic reading materials on L2 learners.
