It was found that the SEM model did work for sibling relationships. It was clear that participants avoided the comparison process and utilized the reflection process to maintain a positive self-evaluation. The effect of birth order on participants’ selfevaluation maintenance behavior was also found. Firstborn, Lastborn, and Only Child participants avoided the comparison process whereas Middleborn participants did not avoid the comparison process.
