She asserts the\nstruggle by the patients of Minamata disease was based on animism. The purpose\nof this paper is to consider the function of animism from the view of psychoanalysis,\nmainly referring to D. W. Winnicott’s theory of transitional objects.\nAnimism is a faith not only human beings but also all the things in the world\nhave spirits or souls. In the case of people in Minamata, their faith is formed as\nthe syncretization of Buddhism with animism or Christianity with that. Patients of\nMinamata disease said their aim was to recover the pure land where all the things\nhad lived with harmony. They tried to change the situation creatures as well as\nhuman beings suffered from the disease as a result of serious mercury pollution.\nAccording to Iwao Munakata, people in Minamata are usually unconscious of\ntheir animism in their daily life. They will become conscious of it in time of crisis\nand will become united based on it.\nTsurumi says animism was a driving force of the struggle in Minamata. Such\na function is similar to that of transitional objects in psychoanalysis. Winnicott\nexplains these objects are the mediators for an infant to be separated from parents.\nA necessary condition to achieve the separation is to get the ability to bear the\nsituation the infant cannot be given what he/she wants immediately. He/she\nsymbolizes the situation with substitutes, which are called transitional objects.\nWhen he/she is separated from parents, the objects will become meaningless and be abandoned.\nThe process of trial and error with transitional objects is also the process of\nthe development of unconscious trust in others and the world. This trust is a basis\nof mental stability, which is named ontological security by Anthony Giddens.\nHowever, a person may lose the stability in time of crisis if the relationship with\nothers and the world becomes no longer self-evident. Transitional objects will be\nthe mediators he/she rebuilds the trust in others and the world in such an unstable\nsituation. A case study of that is children in the affected areas of the Great East\nJapan Earthquake played at the terrible tsunami disaster. It is said this play\nfunctioned as a transitional object to rebuild their mental stability.\nA person with the trust in others and the world can be headed for his/her ideal,\nwhich is called metastasis, a necessary condition he/she reconsiders the truism\nself-critically. Psychoanalysis needs the driving forth to the ideal, because a\nperson without it cannot have a firm perspective that should be reconsidered. In\nother words, the analysis without metastasis will end in failure. Similarly, the\nsituation people have lost the mental stability can be fatal to the environmental\nmovements, because self-critical praxis among them based on the driving forth to\nthe ideal is necessary to achieve the better decision making in the process of\nenvironmental movements. As Tsurumi and Munakata mentioned, animism can\nbe a mediator people in time of crisis can be headed for their ideal of the movement\nagain.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.34577/00004031","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国際基督教大学","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"04542134","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"open access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"萩原, 優騎","creatorNameLang":"ja"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"5473","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2016-04-14"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"81号_A3萩原優騎.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"913.4 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"環境運動におけるアニミズムの一つの機能 —D.W. ウィニコットの移行対象論を主に参照して—","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"環境運動におけるアニミズムの一つの機能 —D.W. ウィニコットの移行対象論を主に参照して—","subitem_title_language":"ja"},{"subitem_title":"A Function of Animism in Environmental Movements: Mainly Referring to D.
