It also considers issues related to the transfer from the mother tongue that may obscure the main point and thus confuse the reader. Since all EFL learners at college level will eventually experience occasions in social life whereby a formal letter is indispensable, they need to be aware of successful and efficient types of writing. The paper analyzes the samples from three aspects: formatting and layout, the overall structure of the text, and sociolinguistic features transferred from L1 to L2.
