A grammaticality judgment task was given to university students enrolled in three different levels of Japanese courses. The participants were asked to listen to short conversations that included one of the auxiliary verbs in question and to indicate whether the auxiliary verb they heard was grammatically correct. A one-way ANOVA indicated that the distinction between te-kureru and te-morau is most difficult for all levels of participants; however, more proficient participants are able to distinguish these two verbs.
