The first immersion program was implemented in the 1980s: a primary school in Queesnsland adopted the Japanese program in 1995, and in Victoria, three schools offered immersion programs in Japanese in 1998. The Japanese immersion programs are a combined approach of LOTE program and immersion program, which serves approximately 30% of curriculum taught in the target language. The researches reveal grammatical weakness in students' second language performance; however, LOTE plus immersion program would improve such difficulty, and also keep senior students grow their interests in Japanese. For the future success, pre-service/in-service training, developments of the curriculum and teaching methods and total assessments of second language proficiency are essential.
