In\nline with this recent shift of emphasis from the notion of training to\nthat of development, the idea of teacher exploration or an exploratory\napproach has often been discussed as a sort of “liberating tool” for\nteachers from the pressure of identifying a best or better way of\nteaching (Gebhard & Oprandy, 1999). This paper, thus, outlines and\ndiscusses recent developments in the field by addressing a) how is\nteacher development different from teacher training? b) what is teacher\nexploration in relation to teacher development? and c) what are\nactivities that teachers can use to work on their development and to\nexplore their teaching?
