I interviewed and recorded the oral history of dozens of comfort\nwomen, many of whose stories became part of the reports given at the\nInternational Public Hearing Concerning Post War Compensation of Japan\n（1992 Tokyo）and the Women’s International War Crimes Tribunal（2000\nTokyo）.\n　Politicians, intellectuals and experts are unable to escape archival\nindoctrination. The current Prime Minister, Mr. Abe, has professed that “the\nstandard of accepted historical perspectives on whether or not a war of\naggression was conducted should left up to history experts,” and that “no\ndocumentary evidence has been found to prove that the Japanese army\nforced anyone to become comfort women against their will.” As a result,\nJapan is being excoriated with the criticism that it is a “nation of amnesia”\nby the international community.\n　However, we cannot turn a blind eye to the past. The numbers of the\nformer comfort women who came forward in the 1990s are slowly\ndwindling as they age and die.
