Between the late 1950s and 1960s, the aim of thealternative school in the United States and Europe was to introduce and implement educational practices different from public schools. The concept of the alternative school was introduced in Korea in the 1970s when the level of discontent with the traidtional school system was quite high. The free school movement became popular and stronger as the public school system was failing during that period.
