Particularly, as OpenAI technologies like ChatGPT continue to progress, educational institutions \nare embarking on the endeavor of integrating these technologies into their educational environments, \nalongside conventional teaching methods, in pursuit of novel approaches. Moreover, educational institutions \nare actively promoting the utilization of a variety of newly developed and popularized digital tools to expand \nthe horizons of learning and provide learners with comprehensive educational opportunities. In this digital era, the concept of Virtual Exchanges (VE), encompassing international and intercultural interactions and collaborative learning within virtual realms such as COIL, has seamlessly integrated itself into the landscape of global education. However, VE has been introduced in different academic disciplines and contextual frameworks, leading to a proliferation of varied terminologies and definitions associated with its pedagogical \nimplementation. Given these circumstances, a multitude of terms and definitions have emerged to \nencapsulate the essence of VE. Through a literature review, this study presents a comprehensive survey of \nthe diverse terminologies currently employed in relation to VE and elucidates the role that VE assumes within the realm of instructional methodologies.
