Consequently, these\nitems may become a source of pragmalinguistic failure (Thomas, 1983). In order to find the\ngaps in pragmatic norms between Japanese native speakers and L2 Japanese learners, an\non-line survey was conducted. Some of the learners were interviewed to identify on which\nknowledge they based their judgment when they chose between these conjunctions. The\nnative speakers exhibited high convergence on some items while the learners showed more\nvariance. Results also suggested that acquisition of kara might precede that of node.
