Its analysis clarifies the following questions: How have various events in the past been experienced by the student? How have her patterns of orientation and interpretation as well as self-presentation been developed out of the past experiences? How have environmental conditions influenced this process ? Furthermore, a narrative interview with her mother is also analyzed to elucidate her educational strategy and its effects on her life story. Using biographic-narrative-interpretive method, a case of one female student who entered a Japanese high school after a 10 year stay in the United States is analyzed. It is indicated that a discrepancy between her pattern of orientation developed in an American school and her experiences framed by school-culture of the Japanese school leads to difficulties in her present life. Her mother's critical perspective towards the Japanese school based on her positive experiences at American school plays a role in her constructing of present- as well as future-pattern of orientation. These findings suggest also that the introduction of elements from multicultural education into school learning could support her to reflect her own transcultural experiences and to overcome difficulties.
