Respondents were two hundred and twenty-eight (109 male, 119 female) public elementary school children and one hundred and eighty-eight (101 male, 87 female) public junior high school children. Questionnaires were administered to these respondents who were only two siblings in the family. The results showed that respondents perceived their sibling relationships rather favorably. But they did not show self-evaluation maintenance tendencies. Firstborn respondents among elementary school children rated themselves better than their sibling both on highly self-relevant items and on less relevant items. Correspondingly, second born respondents among elementary school children perceived themselves more negatively both on highly self-relevant items and on less relevant items. This tendency, where the young honor their siblings was not found among junior high school children. Female respondents perceived their sibling relationships more positively than male participants.
